Induction is the cooktop most kitchens want to end up at — faster than gas, easier to clean, no exhaust hood requirement in the same way. The price band above is for the install. The cooktop unit itself is bought separately from a retailer (most homeowners pay $900–$2,500 for a good 60cm unit) — these prices cover everything from the wall outlet inwards.
The two big variables
The first is scope: a like-for-like swap of an existing induction is a 30-60 minute job, while a gas-to-induction conversion in a double-storey home is a much larger piece of work that needs a dedicated 32A circuit run from the switchboard plus a licensed gas plumber to cap the gas. The second is switchboard capacity — older 1990s and 2000s Melbourne boards often don't have spare capacity for a new 32A circuit, and the cost guide sometimes becomes a board upgrade plus a cooktop install. We assess both at the quote.
What's included in a Millar Electrics quote
A free site visit with switchboard assessment, a written itemised quote within one business day, and a fixed price with no surprises after acceptance. Materials, labour, the dedicated 32A circuit, cooktop installation and commissioning, the Certificate of Electrical Safety, and lodgement with Energy Safe Victoria. Gas isolation by a licensed gas plumber is coordinated separately — we work with plumbers we know or with a plumber you've already engaged.
