Understated Glamour Extension
Feature lighting and automated circuits for a luxury rear extension

How it came together.
This rear extension added a new open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area to a period home — and the brief was clear: the electrical had to feel luxurious without shouting about it. Every fitting, switch, and circuit was chosen to support an interior that balances warmth with refinement.
Feature lighting design
The kitchen featured a row of large-format pendant fittings wired on individual circuits to allow each to be switched independently. Recessed downlights in the living area were arranged in two separate circuits, giving the owners the ability to create different moods throughout the day. LED strip lighting was installed in the kitchen joinery pelmets on a low-voltage driver, providing a soft accent layer that works beautifully in the evenings.
Switchboard and circuits
The existing switchboard was upgraded to accommodate the new extension's load. New circuits were added for the kitchen appliances — separate circuits for the oven, rangehood, dishwasher, refrigerator, and a dedicated 20A circuit for future use. The extension's lighting and power circuits were neatly labelled and documented at the board for the owner's reference.
Automated blinds and climate
Wiring was run for the motorised roller blinds specified by the interior designer, with a central switching point in the joinery. A dedicated circuit was also run for the split-system air conditioner serving the new space.
