Burwood and Burwood East run from the established red-brick streets near the Camberwell boundary out to the newer estates around the parklands in the east. It's mostly a residential job for us, and the work splits cleanly by era: the older homes need their wiring and switchboards brought into the present, while the newer builds and townhouses need extra capacity for the way households now run.
Most of our Burwood call-outs start at the meter board. Homes built in the 1940s and 50s often still carry their original board — ceramic fuses, no safety switches, and an earth that no longer satisfies AS/NZS 3000. We replace these with a modern board and RCBOs as a matter of course, and it's usually the first thing we recommend before any rewiring or extra circuits go in. The red-brick construction makes a rewire more involved than it is in a 70s veneer — original cabling is often buried in solid masonry, so we run replacement cable through ceiling voids and wall cavities and only chase brick where there's genuinely no other path. About Burwood
Burwood sits in Whitehorse City Council, with Warrigal Road forming its western edge and Burwood Highway — and the 75 tram — running straight through the middle. The Burwood Brickworks, Frasers' redevelopment of the old brick-pit site, is the suburb's most prominent recent change: a retail and residential precinct that has brought apartment and townhouse buyers into an area that was almost entirely detached housing. The older residential stock is 1940s and 50s red brick, with some pre-war weatherboard on the streets nearest the Whitehorse Road end. That era of housing routinely turns up original ceramic fuse boards, low circuit counts, and earthing that no longer meets AS/NZS 3000. Burwood East, which shares the postcode boundary and surrounds the Deakin University campus, runs to a more uniform 1970s brick-veneer profile — better original wiring, but switchboards now reaching the end of their service life.
