A Stunning Home Awakening

When the owners decided to strip this home back to the studs and start fresh, the existing electrical wiring — some of it original to the 1960s build — had to go with it. Millar Electrics was engaged to design and install a completely new electrical system from scratch, giving the renovated home the safety and capability a modern family demands.

Full rewire

All old wiring was stripped out during the demolition phase. We ran new TPS cabling throughout the entire home, grouping circuits logically to minimise load imbalance and make future troubleshooting straightforward. Every room received new outlets, new lighting circuits, and dedicated circuits for high-draw appliances.

Switchboard upgrade

The old fuse box was replaced with a modern switchboard featuring RCD (safety switch) protection on all circuits and individual MCBs for every circuit in the home. The board was sized with spare capacity for the owner's planned future additions — including solar panels and an EV charger rough-in, which we also completed during the renovation.

Lighting and automation

Recessed LED downlights were installed throughout on dimmable circuits. The kitchen featured under-cabinet LED strip lighting and appliance-specific circuits for the oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator. A separate circuit was run to the home theatre room with conduit provision for future AV equipment.

The project ran over twelve weeks and required close coordination with the plasterers and tilers to ensure all cabling was correctly positioned before walls were closed. The result is a home that looks stunning, and whose electrical backbone is built to the same standard.
