From Little Things
Compact rear extension with smart safety upgrades throughout

How it came together.
A modest extension doesn't need to mean modest electrical work. This Vermont project added a compact new living space and updated bathroom to a post-war home, and we treated it with the same thoroughness we bring to every job — because a safety switch and a correctly-sized circuit matter just as much in a small project as a large one.
Extension rough-in
New lighting and power circuits were run for the extended living area and the new bathroom. The bathroom circuits were run with correct separation between lighting and power, and the exhaust fan was wired on the lighting circuit with a separate timer module. All wiring met current code requirements for wet area compliance.
Safety upgrades
The existing home had no RCD protection on its circuits. As part of this project, the owners agreed to upgrade the switchboard at the same time as the extension work — a sensible decision that meant the whole home is now properly protected. We replaced the existing fuse holders with modern MCBs and added RCDs to the lighting and power circuits throughout.
External lighting
New external lighting was added to the rear of the property, wired on a sensor-controlled circuit. An external weatherproof double GPO was installed on the back wall of the extension for garden equipment and outdoor use.
