Family Bliss Home Extension

Not every project needs a dramatic transformation brief. Sometimes a family just needs more space — and the electrical work that supports it done properly the first time. This Nunawading extension added a new family room, a fourth bedroom, and an updated laundry, and Millar Electrics handled the full electrical scope for the addition.

Extension rough-in

New circuits were run from the existing switchboard for the family room, bedroom, and laundry. The switchboard had sufficient capacity to absorb the additional load without an upgrade, though we added a spare circuit breaker slot for the owner's future solar plans. All wiring was run through the wall cavities during the framing phase.

Safety upgrades

At the owner's request, we took the opportunity to add RCD protection to the older portions of the home's circuits, which previously only had fuse protection. New safety switches were installed on the lighting and power circuits in the existing bedrooms as part of the same job, bringing the whole home up to current safety standards.

External security lighting

Two motion-activated floodlights were installed at the rear of the property — one covering the new extension's external access, one covering the existing side gate. These were wired on a dedicated external circuit with a manual override at the laundry switch point.
